As a staple in every wardrobe, denim trends continue to evolve. Over the last few years, comfort comes first; lending itself to looser styles edging out the skin tight skinnies of the 2010s. With the season in full swing, and National Denim Day on April 26th, here are just a few of the trends you should look out for on your next shopping trip!

Wide Leg

If there’s one trend that will likely continue as a staple well into the decade, it’s wide leg denim. Relaxed and versatile, it’s an essential that can be dressed up or down. From more streamlined styles, to unfinished hems, and slits, it should be an essential part of your 2023 wardrobe.

Cargos

Utilitarian design falls right in line with the oversized denim trend of the last few years, with cargo pockets showing up on full-length jeans and shorts for a look that calls back to the Y2K era. With a bold ultra-loose fit, pockets are typically on the bigger side too.

Asymmetrical Waist

Cropped tops and denim are a match made in heaven, giving subtle details like an asymmetrical waist a chance to shine. Typically found on vintage-inspired high waisted jeans and wide leg cuts, the trend continues to break ground and make its way onto shorts and skirts of all lengths, too.

Pretty in Pink

Rose-tinged denim has been on trend for a couple of seasons, with shades closer to salmon or coral sometimes worn as a neutral. For a bolder take on the trend, try a bright shade of fuchsia or baby doll pink. For a more subtle approach, start with pastels. In both scenarios, resist the urge to match too much; instead opting for complimentary shades of green.

Deconstructed Denim

From patchwork and mixed washes to raw hems and edges, this look has a lived in and quirky feel to it. With so much emphasis on sustainability and recycling, some brands are repurposing older fabric from previous collections into something brand new.

Maxi Skirts

Mini skirts may rule the summer months, but a full-length maxi is a great transitional piece for taking you from the chilly months into spring. Featuring high splits, raw edges, utility pockets and every wash you can think of, the pairing possibilities are virtually endless.

The Canadian Tuxedo

What better time for a homegrown trend to make its way back to the mainstream? Denim on denim is more versatile than you might imagine, with new trends blending different washes and matching more than just jeans and a traditional denim jacket. Think blazers, bustiers, and miniskirts all stacked on top of each other for the ultimate true blue jean appeal.

Embellished denim

Crystals, pearls and sequins add a touch of glamour to this year’s denim, making these pieces the star of any outfit. You can always pair it with more subdued items or go full Great Gatsby with accessories that shine just as bright.

Whether you prefer dressing up, or keeping it casual, there’s a denim fit out there for everyone. Elevate your wardrobe with some of these different styles and see what works for you. With so many options to choose from, the possibilities are endless.
