Construction of The Ontario Line has commenced and to accommodate this work, Queen Street will be closed between Yonge & Bay streets effective  May 1, 2023, for approximately four years.

Pile Drilling on Queen Street West as of May 13

To build the future Ontario Line Queen Station, crews will be conducting pile drilling to install structural walls. This work will be done in two sections: piling will start first at the West site near Queen Street West and James Street. Piling work at the East site, on Queen Street East between Yonge Street and Victoria Street, will take place at a future date. Work is expected to begin as early as May 13, 2024 and will be ongoing until approximately December 2024.

Impact to CF Toronto Eaton Centre

While Queen Street will be closed to all vehicles, it will be open for pedestrians. Metrolinx will provide safe, effective detours and wayfinding to ensure that people living in, working in or visiting the area will still be able to access their Office building as well as all their favourite stores and restaurants during the closure, including at CF Toronto Eaton Centre.

As indicated above, Metrolinx is expected to close Queen Street from Victoria Street to Bay Street. The northbound & southbound lanes on Yonge Street, Victoria Street and Bay Street will remain open. Pedestrian access to CF Toronto Eaton Centre from Queen Street will be maintained.

TTC

Subway service at Queen station will not be affected.

The 501 Queen streetcar will divert both ways via McCaul Street, Dundas Street, and Broadview Avenue, to regular route.

The TTC will also introduce additional bus service in this section of downtown, which will run westbound on Richmond Street and eastbound on King Street via Bay Street and Church Street. For more information, please visit TTC’s website.

Parking

Both parking facilities (Yonge & Bay/Dundas) at CF Toronto Eaton Centre will remain accessible and open.  Be assured, despite the construction activity along key streets, emergency exits, evacuation routes and procedures for all buildings remain in place.

Future of the Ontario Line

The future Ontario Line Queen Station is expected to be the line’s busiest and will also be a vital transfer hub. Connections like the one at Queen Station are why the Ontario Line is expected to accommodate nearly 400,000 daily trips and reduce crowding on the TTC’s busy Line 1 by up to 15 per cent, and will be a significant commuter benefit to shoppers, visitors and workers at CF Toronto Eaton Centre when the line is completed.
